How to choose a stroker

Think about texture, tightness and size. Ribs, nubs and chambers make a stroker feel more intense, while a smooth channel is gentler. A stretchy sleeve fits most sizes, but if you're larger, look for XXL designs with a longer channel. Beginners usually love a medium-tight, open-ended sleeve: it's easy to clean and comfortable for longer sessions.

Using a stroker for the first time

Warm the sleeve in warm water for a minute so it feels closer to body temperature, then add plenty of lube inside the channel and on yourself. Start slowly and experiment with depth, angle and grip. Squeezing the sleeve tightens the channel, while a gentle hold creates a softer feel. Many men use strokers to practise edging: slowing down just before orgasm and starting again to build stamina.

Which lube works best?

Cleaning and drying your stroker

Rinse the sleeve with warm water after every use and wash the inner channel with a gentle toy cleaner. Let it dry completely before putting it away, as trapped moisture is the main reason sleeves go mouldy. When it's dry, a light dusting of renewal powder restores the soft, silky feel and stops the material getting sticky.

Manual stroker or something more?

A manual stroker gives you total control and is the most affordable option. If you'd like extra sensation, a vibrating stroker adds buzzing or heat. If you want the toy to do the work, an automatic stroker thrusts, rotates or sucks on its own. Many men start manual and add a vibrating or automatic model later.

Open or closed end?

Open-ended strokers let you push all the way through, suit every length and are the quickest to rinse and dry. Closed-ended strokers seal at the far end, which traps air and creates a gentle suction every time you pull back. Some designs have a cap you can loosen or tighten to control that suction, giving you the best of both.

Ribs create a rippling sensation as you stroke, nubs add pinpoint stimulation and chambers squeeze and release at different points along the channel.
